PISGAH HIGH SCHOOL RECEIVES LOWE'S GRANT FOR SCIENCE AMPHITHEATRE

$5,000 will provide funding toward SCIENCE AMPHITHEATRE

Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation has awarded a $5,000 Toolbox for Education grant to Bill Shelton's middle school science classes at Pisgah High School to be used toward the construction of an amphitheatre to be built at Pisgah Civitan Park.  Pisgah High School is one of more than 450 schools or parent organizations to be awarded a Lowe's Toolbox for Education grant benefiting K-12 public education across the United States during the 2009-2010 school year.

A seating area large enough for 50 individuals will offer students a relaxed seating area surrounded by examples of earth, life, and physical sciences.  It will also provide the community with an attractive and functional locale for both meetings and entertainment.  Visitors to the park will also find scientific names and other information about local plant life at various locations along the trails.  The goal is for students to incorporate science into community -based activities in order to recognize and develop their role as valued members of the community.  The project is scheduled to begin in early spring and should be completed by late April/early May.

"Through our Toolbox for Education grant program, Lowe's recognizes parent-initiated efforts to enrich the lives of children in our communities," said Larry D. Stone, chairman of Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation. "By supporting schools like Pisgah High School, we are contributing to a cause that's important to our customers and employees, and we're also helping to build a stronger foundation for the children who will be tomorrow's employees, homeowners and community leaders."
